| Tiivistelmä: | The results of a research are presented pointing to the competitive advantage organizations can gain by using information technology, while not being technological innovators themselves. This may be achieved by changing the basis of competition, by affecting entry barriers, supplier relations or switching costs, and by generating new products.Based on a number of case studies in financial services, it is argued that the route to success is also based on gaining organization-wide commitment, matching internal structures to market opportunities, recruiting high-quality staff and a multi-disciplinary approach to the implementation of particular projects. |
