Tiivistelmä:Computer technology is now a pervasive part of the R+D process and is taking a significant slice of the total R+D budget. On the basis of discussions held with more than 50 managers in five large corporations several critical situations were identified which could lead to ineffective use of computers. 1. Some engineers and scientists are spending too much time writing computer programs. 2. R+D professionals are using inappropriate computer tools. 3. There is a substantial duplication of programming effort. 4. Data quantity overwhelms research design and analysis. 5. Researchers fail to use central software and support. 6. Personal computing may cause productivity deficits. Actions are suggested for R+D managers to avoid these problems.
