Tiivistelmä: | Estimates of the intensity of use of auxiliary equipment in the residential sector of the United States are derived using the conditional demand analysis technique. About 40 per cent of all homes have auxiliary heating capability beyond primary heating capability, and 24 per cent have auxiliary equipment other than fireplaces. The most prevalent types in single family homes are wood stoves and portable electric heaters. Some regional differences in the prevalence of technologies are apparent. The use of auxiliary equipment represents an important response to uncertainty of availability and variability in prices of fuel. It suggests that fuel price responsiveness may have increased over time. |
