| Tiivistelmä: | The existing models of community-based rehabilitation (CBR) for disabled persons are analyzed. These models were introduced in the 1970s as an alienation from institutional care. Nevertheless, they suffered from serious shortcomings , particularly in the field of vocational training. The success of a community programme to provide training and employment for disabled people depends on the availability of qualified trainers and the community's acceptance of men and women with any type of disability. There has recently been a shift away from the CBR approach toward the broader concept of community-integration programmes (CIPs) which involve both disabled people and local institutions in training. |
