Tiivistelmä:A survey of 12 Danish firms representing a broad range of industrial and consumer industries showed that planning systems were part of company procedure. A problem common to all was how to deal with environmental uncertainties to which the companies had found different solutions such as developing models for crisis management. The companies' small sizes and narrow product lines prevented most firms from opting for a separate, formal planning organization. Creative and conceptual thinking was emphasized at the expense of written communication. Qualitative techniques are de-emphasized, niche strategies are prevalent. Some firms using rather unusual approaches are worth monitoring. Environmental monitoring was formalized in companies with dynamic environment.
