PETROLEUM INDUSTRY

Tiivistelmä:India is a net oil importer whose oil import bill has increased substantially, despite an increase in relative self-sufficiency in oil supplies. The outlook for a rapid increase of indigenous oil supplies in not very encouraging, and any new refining capacity will use mostly imported crudes. Moreover, uncertainty related to the interaction between crude oil and product markets makes it necessary to examine the economic viability of further investments in the refining industry. However, it is clear that refining needs will be related to the product demand mix, total product demand, the types of crude available for import, and price differentials between crudes and products.
