| Tiivistelmä: | The factors which underlie the process of internalization in the EC by UK manufacturing companies in so far as it results in the establishment of a Subsidiary or Joint Venture in an EC market are investigated. A sequential model of the internalization process is developed and tested using the experience of 50 UK manufacturing companies. The results do not support a narrowly incremential view of the process of internalization. International experience and formal planning act as substitutes for market experience, enabling firms to leapfrog the incremental process within markets. The results support a life cycle model based on the international development of the firm rather than the market or product. |
