Tiivistelmä: | The properties of analysts' earning forecasts for failing firms are examined and the ability of measures developed from analysts' forecasts to predict failure is investigated. When compared to healthy firms, failing firms are found to have lower forecasts, greater dispersion of forecasts, greater forecast error and over-optimistic forecasts. Overall findings indicate that analysts' earnings forecasts for failing firms capture failure relevant information but are of lower quality than for healthy firms, and that measures developed from analysts' forecasts are potentially strong indicators of impending bankruptcy. |
