| Tiivistelmä: | One approach to studying effective leadership is to explore the backgrounds and career patterns of selected CEOs (chief executive officers) in an attempt to present an aggregate profile of effective leaders in American business. The unusual stability in top leadership and the corporate tendency to rely on indigenous talent for top positions is a factor contributing to the great strength of America's top 50 companies. A very large majority did not inherit wealth but achieved both wealth and corporate power by working their way up through the ranks. The descriptive profile of top American CEOs in terms of training, experience and preparation reveals that these individuals belonged to the American mainstream. |
