| Tiivistelmä: | The rapid growth in part-time and temporary work over the past decade has accounted for most of Britain's large rise in jobs compared with other EC countries. The influence of the Institute of Manpower Studies model is analyzed. This, being an expressive model of the flexible firm, can easily be transformed into a working model for manpower policy. The application of the model is demonstrated using three case studies. An analysis of peripheral groups is presented. The application of the flexible firm concept is illustrated using examples from several industries, the Civil Service, and the National Health Service. It is shown how ambiguity in the definition of "core" staff has led to debate. |
