Tiivistelmä: | Much of the money and effort spent today on research and development at the corporate level is wasted. Corporate research and development (CRD) centres are necessary only if a company is following a technology leadership strategy and is diversified, and if technology synergies can be captured across business units. The key role of the chief technology officer is discussed. He or she may act as spokesperson and orchestrator of the technical strategy, wether or not the company has a CRD program. The problems arising out of poor organization, improper focus, improper funding, lack of transfer responsibility, and inattention to breakthroughs are discussed. |
