| Tiivistelmä: | As part of their international activities, companies are often forced to operate in hostile environments, especially in certain developing countries. Amongst the major difficulties encountered is that of a non-convertible local currency which results in large disparities between official and parallel exchange rates. Based on a field study done in West Africa, the different problems posed by this phenomenon are analyzed, e.g. its impact on contract negotiations, day-to-day management and the problems related to getting the necessary funds from parallel markets for the functioning of the foreign company. Solutions are offered to all these difficulties. |
