| Tiivistelmä: | In these days of heightened concern about the environment, improvements in energy efficiency are a universally recognized and recommended imperative. In order to realize the large potential improvements in energy efficiency, two changes in perspective are required. The boundaries of the energy system being optimized must be enlarged to include not only the familiar supply or production section but also the consumer section; even within the consumer section, the boundaries of optimization must be enlarged beyond individual energy-using devices. In addition, the enlarged systems must be looked at from the consumer rather than the producer perspective. |
