| Tiivistelmä: | Daily electricity consumption data can be used to estimate the level of industrial production in Italy in any given month before the month is over. For this purpose, electricity consumption data are used for the first 14 days of the month, by using an extension of a previous model. It is shown that, with several adjustments, a model using half-monthly consumption of electric power generates sufficient estimates of the monthly production index. These estimates are more accurate than those based on monthly data. A further improvement can be made by combining half-monthly estimates with univariate forecasts. |
