Tiivistelmä:AT and T (American Telephone and Telegraph) divested its 22 highly regulated operating companies of the Bell System. The new AT and T, without the local telephone service, would be free to focus on rapidity growing, more profitable markets for its advanced technology products. One of the Bells seized upon its creation as an opportunity to go beyond its basic business. The decision had an immediate financial impact, the open door to diversification represented the most exciting strategic impact on Baby Bell. Diversification, innovation, and competition are the most important themes for USA West for the right mix of architectural styles. Also, it could develop an independent R&D capacity.
