| Tiivistelmä: | The objective is to introduce a comprehensive model framework for evaluating the performance attributes of the class of material-production-distribution systems supply chain network. The purpose of the framework is to predict the impact, on performance, of alternative manufacturing, material and service strategies. The key innovation lies in the integration of the entire range of inventory subsystems and the associated linkage of decisions and performance measures. A software package to support the model is developed. Field tests of a prototype software system implementation of the model are described, which suggest that significant tradeoffs exist in upstream versus downstream investments of inventory. |
