| Tiivistelmä: | This paper reports the results of an empirical study into the cash management practices of multinational corporations in Germany. The financial mangers of the 37 corporations taking part in the study were asked about the instruments, and the reasons for choosing them. The study showed that short-term cash planning in most cases is carried out on a corporate-wide, consolidated basis. A high degree of centralisation also prevails in the management of the companies' cash balances. Compared to earlier studies on the subject, the use of payments netting systems has markedly increased. This may be due to a stronger emphasis on cost effectiveness in the area of corporate finance as well as to the increasing importance of the world-wide division of labour within German companies. |
