Tiivistelmä: | Economists have made a mess of things. This failure of economists to guide policy more successfully is closely connected with their propensity to imitate as closely as possible the procedures of successful physical sciences. Unlike the position that exists in the physical sciences, in economics and other disciplines that deal with essentially complex phenomena, the aspects of the events about one can get quantitative data are limited and may not include the important ones. The correlation between aggregate demand and total employment, e.g., may only be approximate, but it is accepted as the only casual connection that counts. Other difficulties of economics as an exact science are discussed. |
