Tiivistelmä:The paper deals with intergenerational transfers of income through the state budget and funds (defined as the redistribution of income from the active generation to the young and to the retired generation) in the period 1947 to 1994.Whereas in the period till 1960 both transfers were more or less of the same magnitude, in the next years the transfers to the retired generation in GDP were increasing transfers to the young generation were decreasing.Only in the nineties public expenditures for the young started to grow again, but they are very low in comparison with those for the old generation. This is not a result of demographic transition but a logical consequence of the maturation of pension system and of additional liabilities imposed on pension system by the government; besides in the transition period the unemployment problems were often solved by early retirement schemes. As a result the burden of taxes and contributions has increased enormously and the material position of active population has worsened.
