Tiivistelmä:The authors consider the roles of ’general’ and ’HR specific’ management capabilities in high performance work organizations (HPWOs), and the effects these capabilities have on performance. The consideration is based on resource-based view of companies and the managerial rents model. A panel establishment data is used in the study presented in the article, the data is gathered in the UK aerospace sector in years 1999 and 2002. The results indicate how both forms of management capabilities were associated with HPWOs in 1999, but this wasn’t the case anymore in 2002. There was a clear positive relationship between HPWO practices in 1999 and consequently value-added per employee in 2002. The authors conclude how the use of HPWO practices seems to lead to high levels of value-added per employee, although the measure of general management resources isn’t very high.
