| Tiivistelmä: | Computer aided software engineering (CASE) technology and products are described. Original CASE concepts focused solely on creating new applications systems. New CASE products must expand to encompass the maintenance, enhancement, and migration of existing applications systems. Reverse engineering enables Information Systems (IS) to extract business rules from old applications and use them as basis for refurbishing. The re-engineering cycle is analyzed. Six development steps in CASE activity are identified. A reverse engineering product as an expert system is characterized. CASE products impact on the evolution of IS practices is indicated. |
