Tiivistelmä:The relative impacts of changes in output, industry structure and energy intensities on energy use in the manufacturing sectors of eight industrial nations are examined. Structural change has led to modest declines in energy use in most countries, but there is some variation in response to local policies and conditions. The reduction in energy intensities was very uniform across all nations, ranging from 20 p.c. /Norway/ to 36 p.c. in Japan. These reductions are driven in part by energy prices and in part by technological change. In the study a method based on Laspeyres indices was used, which is an alternative of Divisia decomposition techniques.
