| Tiivistelmä: | This paper studies immigrantsÂ’ labor market performance and how receiving societies' structural and institutional characteristics affect it. Patterns of self-selection and labor market integration of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union (FSU) in Israel and Germany during the 1990s are being compared. Many of the differences can be explained by the greater rigidity of the German labor market and also by the more generous benefits provided to FSU immigrants by the German state. However, no appreciable differences of educational self-selection of immigrants in Germany and Israel were found. |
