| Tiivistelmä: | The U.S. policy to pursue bilateral free-trade area /FTA/ agreements is discussed. The U.S.-Israel FTA Agreement is described as an example of the general form of any future agreements. The history of the agreement is outlined. The relationship to the GATT is analyzed. Estimates are given about the trade expansion effects. A table is showing changes in U.S. exports and imports to and from Israel. The paradoxical sides of the empirical results are mentioned. Trade effects are analyzed in detail from the two countries' points of view. Possible future developments are outlined. Future effects of the Israel imports on U.S. markets are mentioned. |
