| Tiivistelmä: | In the Western world, the Bimillennium is being made into the largest Timemark ever. In the article social science research on the environmental and industrial transformation is related to the powerful political, intellectual and cultural currents induced by the "turning point 2000". The functions of turning points for historical interpretations and the way environmental issues come into the picture are discussed. Processes of epochalization are examined and in turn related to interpretations of environmental changes. The prominent role of large projects is taken up and suggestions for cooperative research and reflections on the potential significance of social science research for this historical passage are offered. |
