| Tiivistelmä: | The introduction of the euro is often associated with the completion of financial integration in Europe. This contribution shows however that individual market segments are integrated to quite different degrees. Commercial banking activities remain largely nationally oriented. This implies inter alia, that benefits from diversification in integrated financial markets cannot be reaped fully. Implications for economic policy are discussed at the end of the contribution.
