Tiivistelmä:Multinational companies (MNCs) from emerging and developing (henceforth as: e-and-d.) economies are becoming major players in the globalized world economy. They are likely to have growing influence on economic dynamics in OECD, e-and-d. countries, as well. This paper presents data collected from Turkish firms investing in the transitional economies of the Central Asian Republics. Using an integrated risk management framework (Miller, 1992), it is extended by adding of variables, e.g. corruption, which synthesize institutional level factors. It is found that greater ethical-societal uncertainties result in a preference for joint venture (here as: j-v.) over wholly owned subsidiary. There is a strong correlation btw. the perceived risk of intervention and j-v. entry mode. Only limited support is found for the Uppsala internationalization model.
