Tiivistelmä: | Two of the most commonly cited intellectual roots of this liberal neoclassical position are the economic ideas of Adam Smith and the sociological writings of Herbert Spencer. A great deal of new literature has demonstrated that a careful rereading of Smith challenges the liberal/neoclassical view of democratic capitalism "as a static well-defined system" rather than "an evolving set of political economies where a particular prevailing view is not and should not be the sole model." However, little has been written on Spencer, an enormously influential thought leader in neoclassical economic and political thought. In this article the author will argue that Spencer too has been misinterpreted. |
