| Tiivistelmä: | In order to clarify the meaning of "representation" in sociolinguistics, it is necessary to differentiate it from "attitudes" and "ideologies". The distinctive features of linguistic representations converge to define a form of knowledge, providing interpretations of reality, generally collective (depending on local ideologies), which may be composite, incomplete or even arbitrary. After a review of sociolinguistic works that use the term, or do not use but deal with the subject, two features are emphasized: figurativity and discursivity. |
