Tiivistelmä:The partial buyout of the Faber and Faber publishing house aimed to preserve its independence and coincided with what was a plan for survival: being small and modestly profitable. Its chairman, Evans M. is taking the company into the new areas of video and film. What Faber can exploit more commercially is its outstanding backlist of titles. A new distribution centre has been built to relieve the problem of slowness of delivery of books. Faber is spending vigourously on advances and publicity; both are competitive. The emphasis on direct personal relationships with the authors is a key trait of the smaller publishers which may ensure their survival.
