Tiivistelmä:The situation faced by the European non-nuclear weapon states - particularly Belgium, Switzerland and Germany - is considered. These countries have reprocessing contracts with France and Britain, where spent nuclear fuel from most commercial reactors in Western Europe is reprocessed. To deal with the fuel new reprocessing capacity will be brought into operation, just at a time, when reprocessing is being questioned. Utilities in the countries mentioned have little enthusiasm left for reprocessing or plutonium recycle: they are costly activities, they are the foci for political controversy over nuclear power, and they introduce inflexibilities into the fuel-cycle.
