| Tiivistelmä: | In this report subsidies are defined as transfers to the business sector; they cover both the spending side of fiscal policy -- the provision of financial support (grants and loans) -- and the income side in the form of selective tax allowances. This report seeks to quantify recent trends in subsidisation in Germany, addressing among other things, the following issues: whether the restructuring of subsidies in East Germany has made sufficient progress; whether an improvement in the structure of subsidisation has occured in West Germany; and what view is to be taken of the volume and impact of transfers from west to east Germany. |
