| Tiivistelmä: | The International Energy Agency Secretariat's use of the producer subsidy equivalent methodology as applied to analyse barriers to coal trade in member countries is explained. The concept of the methodology is then explained, including some caveats and cautionary notes, as it has been applied to measure the financial value of assistance to domestic coal production industry. The summary results of the analysis for the first time provide member countries with comparable quantitative estimates of the value of support to coal producers. Some of the arguments for and against maintaining protection of domestic coal industries are examined. |
