Tiivistelmä:This paper discusses direct involvement methods, which are often seen as heralding new industrial relations in which employee voice is weaker than in systems based on unions or work councils. Empiral study from 25 multinationals with headquarters in the UK indicate that this is true only when direct voice is used in isolation. Usually direct voice coexists with union and other representative channels. The variability between three channels (direct, representative committee and union) is the most important thing. Therefore, subject of industrial relations should focus more on the interaction between different voice mechanisms.
