| Tiivistelmä: | In the manufacturing sector a functional organizational structure is currently favoured, although this raises considerable problems in a rapidly changing environment as the necessary exchange of information between individual subsystems within the enterprise calls for extensive coordination and gives rise to linkage problems. Production segmentation or the establishment of production oriented units constitute an attempt to create transparent organizational units that are easy to steer and are both worker- and market-oriented. The author presents the results of an empirical survey embracing 32 enterprises which have already established production segments or plan to do so. |
