| Tiivistelmä: | "Future Looks Bleak for Research." This newspaper headline summarizing recent findings of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, hardly came as a surprise to members of the academic community. Cutbacks in federal funding of non defence research have been commonplace in recent years. Still, any supporter of academic research would be disheartened to learn of the additional 25% deduction likely by 2002. Faced with this economic fact of life, many universities will have to make some hard decisions. |
