Tiivistelmä:The San Francisco project offers developers extendable components for simplifying the transition to distributed, easily customizable applications. The project was started when several IBM business partners asked for help in modernizing their application products. These products typically were written in procedural languages, such as COBOL or RPG. The applications primarily used relational databases as the data store. Some of the applications had been updated to have graphical user interfaces, some of them had also been restructured to use a client-server architecture.
