| Tiivistelmä: | Radical changes taking place in the nature of managerial work are discussed. Collaborative work is found to be increasing, hierarchy fading. The role of cross-divisional and cross-company ventures is highlighted. Channels for instigating action and exerting influence are examined. The horizontal nature of the channels is emphasized. Differences between managers and the people they manage are analysed. External relationships are mentioned as important sources of internal power and influence. Opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurial success are discussed. Hierarchy is examined as a power base. Effective managers are found to be integrators and facilitators. New motivational tools are reviewed. |
