Tiivistelmä: | There is some evidence that points to widespread and growing cynicism among Americans. A recent poll of 1,115 working people found an upward trend in cynical attitudes and beliefs between 1980 and 1990. 66 percent agreed that most people will tell a lie if they can gain from it. A number of demographic characters have been identified with the cynics: age, education, income, race, gender, marital status. Factors influencing cynicism include: poorly, indifferently or cruelly managed companies; poorly or indifferently educated young people; a culture that economically and psychologically penalize those who do not achieve its goals; crime and disease which weaken communities etc. |
