| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines how the European banking sector has changed over the period of 1998-2002. The authors measure the degree of concentration and competition in the enlarged EU banking environment. The results of the study indicate that banks in Europe were operating in a monopolistic competition environment. According to the author, bank interest rates revenues in the 10 new EU Member States were earned under conditions of more competition than those that existed in the old EU banking countries. |
