| Tiivistelmä: | This paper explores how physical materials (hereafter as: mtrls.) impact early design through a study dealing with how groups with very different mtrls. tackle a common design challenge. The mtrls. properties and the ways of interpreting and manipulating them give rise to subtle patterns of behaviour, incl. the ways in which groups move btw. abstract and concrete discussions, the way groups comply with or resist the mtrls, and the complex interactions btw. the physicality of mtrls. and the group dynamics. This understanding contributes to this research in explicating the fundamental role of physicality in the design of hybrid physical and digital artefacts. |
