Tiivistelmä:Banking in Middle East suffers from crisis. Its main cause is not incompetence, corruption or bad loans, but simply having too many banks. US and European banks have already left or are prepared to leave, while Japanese are just moving in, waiting for better times. Jordan is the only country to enforce bank mergers. Kuwait is more cautious. Dubai's only big merger was the result of a virtual collapse of Union Bank of the Middle East. The Saudi banks are still reeling from huge bad or non-performing debts. Luckily, the central banks are generally efficient.
