| Tiivistelmä: | This paper examines the impact of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) on bidder (CEO and other) executive (hereafter as: exec.) compensation (here as: comp.) based on a sample of 100 completed bids in the U.K. during the 1998-2001 period. The findings indicate that less independent and larger boards award CEOs significantly higher bonuses and salary following M&A completion both for the full sample and for the U.K. and U.S. sub-samples. Overall, support is found for the managerial power rather than the agency theory perspective on exec. comp. |
