Tiivistelmä:Focusing on productivity resolves the conflict between competitive advantage and shareholder value. Increasingly, companies are becoming polarized into two camps: those who consider shareholder value the key to managing the company and those who put their faith in gaining competitive advantage. The article argues that productivity is the hinge on which both competitive advantage and shareholder value hang. In pricing a company's shares, the market implicitly assigns a finite time period to the company's ability to create value. Shareholder-value principles are simply common-sense tools to make a business more competitive.
