Tiivistelmä:The number of dolphins and porpoises killed in tuna nets has again begun to rise. A new fishing method attracted new investors to the tuna industry. More than 6 million dolphins have been killed since 1959. The average kill of dolphins has increased from 63 animals per day in 1983 to 167 in 1986 according to the estimates of US dolphin mortality. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. Funds allocated for research into porpoise-saving techniques. Recommendations of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission are dealt with. Ethical considerations. New solutions are needed to stop the slaughter. A list of necessary steps is outlined to address the problem.
