Tiivistelmä:Nerve and tendon conditions - collectively called cumulative trauma disorders /CTD/ - account for about half of all work-related illnesses. Rates of CTDs have tripled in the past decade, and surgery to relieve the pain of carpal tunnel syndrome is the second most frequently performed operation in the USA. CTDs are becoming a major concern in white-collar workplaces as well, in addition to many workers in several industries. Questions remain about the sudden increase and the cause of huge number of people suffering from CTDs. Some typical case studies of CTD and carpal tunnel syndrome are described and opinions of doctors and officials are discussed about the quick growth of work related diseases in the USA.
