Tiivistelmä:For companies that rely on a low-wage, developing-country work force and sell their products in the U.S., Mexico greatly increased its attractiveness as a production site during the 1990s. Aided by NAFTA North American Free Trade Agreement, the past decade has seen Mexico surpass Japan to become the U.S's second largest trading partner. Employment in its export-oriented firms, or maquiladoras, jumped drastically. Since then, however, they have suffered a dramatic change of fortune. Why this unprecedented contraction?
