| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines US environmental load displacement during the 1974-2001 period and determines the forces affecting on such displacement. The results show the pollution embodied in total US imports generally being greater than that embodied in exports. It is found that the pollution intensity of domestic consumption has steadily fallen from 1980 to 1996, and the consumption patterns seem in all to have become cleaner. The findings show no evidence of US increasingly displacing its pollution to Mexico. |
