| Tiivistelmä: | The notion of reliability as well as service industry is defined. The need for reliability is shown. A classification of service industries is presented. An appropriate framework for the application of reliability concepts to service industries is developed. The core importance of correlation is emphasized. A series of methods and techniques (e.g. fault tree analysis, failure mode and effect analysis, failure probability assessment) are mentioned. Reliability efforts in some major service industries are accounted. Power supply industries, communication services and services of government institutions are characterized from reliability aspects. |
