Tiivistelmä: | Organizational democracy (OD) has recently emerged out of new wawe management and presents a challenge for organizational governance. Democracy is suggested to be a pragmatic remedy for the symptoms of employee alienation. This article outlines the origins and nature of OD through a comparison with new wawe management, uncovers its underlying rationale in terms of an array of constitutive assumptions that justify and differentiate its prescriptions for the workplace, and discusses the implications of using a business case to legitimate the democratization of organizations. The paper argues that the interconnection of politics, ethics, knowledge and values together underpin trust in hierarchy, whence OD can best gather its rationale and legitimization. |
